History and the Bible are filled with the lore of the angels, from strange appearances to their duties of watching over entire nations. Here are a few of the folk beliefs and superstitions about angels.
Baby Smiles
A very popular belief, it is said that when a baby smiles in her sleep she is seeing the angels in heaven.
Right Shoulder
Your good angel sits on your right shoulder. It speaks to you and tries to influence you to do good. A fallen angel sits on your left shoulder. Its main goal is to lead you to temptation.
Acquiring Angels
Here is a good reason to do good deeds. It was believed not too long ago that for every genuine, selfless, good deed a person committed, she or he acquired a new angel to watch over her or him. Of course, if a person committed bad deeds, that person accumulated fallen angels. Like a video game, whichever you have the most of when you die, good or bad angels, determines where you go next: heaven or hell.
Rooster Crow
If a rooster crows right before midnight, the angel of death is passing by overhead.
Conversation Lull
Whenever there is a sudden lull in a conversation, it is happening because an angel is passing overhead.
Talk of Angels
When you talk about angels, you may hear the rustle of their wings as they come to listen to what you have to say.
Fairies
In some Catholic areas of northern Europe, it was believed by some that fairies were actually angels who had fallen to the earth.
