Here is a strange happening where three survivors of the Titanic were left behind on a lifeboat. The Third Officer in charge of that lifeboat claimed that the men were already dead when they made it to the rescue ship Carpathia. A study of the bodies show that the men were alive at the time and were left to float and starve to death on the ocean.
Three Starved Titanic Victims Found in Boat
The three men found in a Titanic lifeboat floating in mid ocean by the liner Oceanic, reaching New York today, died of starvation.
White Star officials said that the boat was that mentioned by Third Officer Lowe of the Titanic, who said that he left three bodies in the lifeboat of which he was in charge when his 21 passengers were transferred to the Carpathia.
In direct contradiction to this, bits of cork were found in the mouths of the dead men, and toothmarks on cork and wood portions of the boat indicated that the men, rendered desperate by starvation, gnawed the woodwork in their frenzy.
