There is little wonder as to why there are so many superstitions about dogs. After all, long ago, dogs were sacred to the goddess Hecate, the goddess Artemis, and to the god Ares. In Egypt, they were associated with Anubis and were worshiped.
Today, dogs are our best friends and faithful companions. Still, it is fun to learn a few of the old superstitions about our favorite four-legged friends.
Ghosts
Dogs can see ghosts, according to old folk superstitions. If your dog appears to be staring at nothing, it may actually be looking at a ghost. It was also believed that you could also see the ghost if you looked between the dogs ears.
Fishing
There was a time when fishermen refused to take a dog on their boats because it might bring bad luck. For most people, this old superstition has long been forgotten or completely discarded as nonsense.
Death
When Death has come to claim his victim, a dog can smell his presence and will begin to bark and whine.
Job Hunting
Before you head out on a job hunt, scratch a dog between his ears for good luck.
Open Door
When a dog barks at an open door he is scaring death away.

If an unknown dog comes and howls under your window at night, it is warning you of bad luck to come.

When you see a friendly dog walking towards you, stop to say hello and you will have good luck.
