I wish I had found this pincushion pattern/idea before St. Paddy’s Day because it would have made a great gift for a friend of mine.

A Shamrock Pincushion
Lovers of the Emerald Isle should be specially interested in the illustration which we give, representing a shamrock pincushion, although, as the shamrock is supposed to bring good luck everywhere, the design will, no doubt, be almost equally popular elsewhere. It is intended, of course, that the pincushion should hang on the wall or from the corner of a looking glass on the dressing table.
The pincushion might be made of pale green silk, with a frill of pleated ribbon in a darker shade of green to border it throughout. The stem should be of wire, with a green wool twisted round it, while the ribbons might be either pale pink or pale green, as preferred. The same idea could be carried out prettily in linen embroidered with small sprays of shamrock and bordered with a hemstitched linen frill. It is a good plan if you choose a linen cover to let it be detachable, so that it can easily be removed for washing now and again. In that way one cushion can be used for two or three different covers.
