There are so many stories about people adopting pets and discovering that they adopted a wild animal. This particular story was published in 1955:
“About six weeks ago, Mrs. Margie Lyons found a shivering, soaking-wet puppy on the street.
“She took it home, gave it the best of food and medicine, and watched happily as her new pet tried to make friends with her tiny chihuahua.
“This week Mrs. Lyons took her two dogs to a veterinarian for their rabies vaccinations. It was then she learned her new pet is a wild coyote, not a dog.” [Source]
