A woman is beaten and strangled to death as people pass by unaware because of the thick fog.
What a horrifying situation!
Fog Shields Slayer
With her skull fractured and the fingerprints of her slayer showing on her throat, the mutilated body of Mrs. Edith Wilson, pretty young church organist, was found in a clump of lilac bushes in a muddy yard two doors from her own home in Perth Amboy, N.J.
One arrest has been made, but the police refuse to reveal the man’s name or any other details concerning him.
The young woman fought desperately to save her life.
In several places, many feet from where the broken body was discovered by searchers with dogs, impressions in the mud showed she had been flung to the ground only to rise again to renew her attempts to beat off the assailant.
The terrible struggle was hidden by a thick blanket of fog.
That no one passing on the street a few yards away heard screams is attributed to the fact that the strangler choked his victim speechless.
