Police Clash with 800 Strikers at Hood Rubber Co. in Watertown

Massachusetts police armed with night sticks attacked 800 strikers outside the Hood Rubber Co. plant, seriously injuring two women and one man. The conflict ended when the fire department used hoses to disperse the strikers.

WATERTOWN, Mass., November 13, 1912. — Massachusetts added to the tale of its oppression of organized labor here today.

The police, armed with night sticks, attacked 800 strikers outside the Hood Rubber Co.’s plant this morning.

Two women strikers and one man were seriously injured. One of the women was trampled under the feet of the police as they charged on the strikers.

The fight was ended when the fire department was sent for, and the hose turned on the strikers.

The 800 strikers had gathered at the Hood plant for picket duty.
