Alms House Letter Carrier is Dead
ATLANTA, Georgia. July 22, 1912. — Old Daddy Jim Hill, who has been the letter carrier at the county alms house for forty years, died yesterday in his 80th year and will be buried in the pauper’s field, as no living relatives of the old man are known.
He drifted to Atlanta nearly half a century ago, a kindly, willing and industrious soul whose wits were slightly clouded. Unable to find work outside he went to the poor house, and had been one of its most industrious and valued workers ever since. For 40 years he worked happily ten hours a day, washing dishes, stringing beans, and working in the garden when he wasn’t busy handling the mail which was his special care.
