In 1907, during a smallpox scare, an Osgood, Ohio man with smallpox could not be quarantine. In complete disregard to his community, he exposed nearly every person in his village to smallpox.

A man running amuck with the smallpox has frightened the residents of Osgood, Ohio, almost into hysterics and exposed almost every person in the village.
Guards cannot be secured to make him stay indoors and while suffering from the malady he went into a barber shop and was shaved. The prosecuting attorney of Darke County has been appealed to.
Newport is the seat of the infection and there are 50 cases in the village and immediate vicinity.
At Loramie, several guards have been put up. At Wynant, trips by the rural mail carriers were forbidden.
