A 19-year-old was discovered unconscious on a train with her hands tied and a bottle of chloroform nearby. The oddest part about this story is that when she returned to consciousness, the first thing she asked was “Did he get me this time?”
The news report is from 1913.
Girl Chloroformed in Berth
Evelyn Stewart, 19 years old, of Jacksonville, Florida, was found unconscious and suffering from chloroform poisoning in a Pullman berth on a Big Four train bound for Chicago to Cincinnati.
Her hands were bound behind her with a corset string. A bottle of chloroform was found in the berth.
When doctors attempted to arouse her the girl exclaimed: “Did he get me this time?” according to Dr. F.A. Grossman, a railroad physician. At the Seton Hospital she refused to explain her remark. She said she had been in New York and Chicago. Her purse contained $46.
