St. James, N.F. December 29, 1909. — Eleven Newfoundland schooners and their crews of sixty men, are believed to have been lost in the Christmas blizzard, when great destruction of property resulted.

The storm has abated some. This December has been the stormiest month on the Newfoundland coast in half a century.
