As a woman, I can honestly say that throughout history we ladies have done some silly things, such as wear forehead jewelry or, for my generation, neon jelly shoes.
The article and photo below were published in 1919. The fad had a brief resurgence in the sixties and I have no doubt the fashionistas of the internet could revive head bangles once again.
Forehead Jewels Are a London Fad
From London comes the mode of large jewel ornaments upon the forehead, to be worn with evening dress. This appears to be a modern interpretation of the ancient custom of binding the head with bangles.
A central jewel surrounded by a group of smaller stones is the form this particular ornament takes. The whole is strung upon a narrow silver chain which is bound about the head, low on the coiffure. The ornament is worn very low upon the forehead.
