The following newspaper article about a drunk person driving a sleigh was published in 1880. What caught me off guard was the tone of the article. It is not a style a reputable news provider could use today.
The Sleigh Fiend
A drunken idiot in a sleigh, yesterday, made himself very conspicuous by driving at a rapid gait along the streets. At one time, while turning a corner on to Main Street, two ladies were crossing.
The drunken driver apparently tried his best to run over the ladies, and drove the horse on to them.
The animal sprang forward, but the sleigh happening to upset (unfortunately not breaking the driver’s neck), the ladies escaped without injury, so to speak; the hoof of one of the horses, however, striking one of them on the knees, without inflicting any serious injury. [Source]
