How can you make a pumpkin keep for the winter? I found this little gem in a 1914 newspaper. I have honestly never tried to store a whole pumpkin. Instead, I’ve cooked it down and froze it in the amounts I would need for pumpkin pie and pumpkin breads. I know someone who dried their pumpkin harvest for later use. But whole storage? Never.
To Keep Pumpkins
Select the small, hard shell variety.
Wash off shell and wipe perfectly dry.
Seal the stem end with warm – not hot – sealing wax.
Hang pumpkin by stem from the ceiling in a dry storeroom.
If the pumpkin is perfect, with no bruises, it will keep practically all winter.
