Infinity Tattoo Symbol and Its Historical Meaning

Infinity tattoos are popular among GenXers, Millennials, and GenZs, but what does the symbol actually mean?

In mathematical terms, the infinity symbol, ∞ , represents a large number that does not end. The number is infinite. It goes on and on and on…

However, the symbol originated in ancient India where it also symbolized the infinite and completeness.

Broken down, the right circle is considered masculine and the left circle is feminine, and the two are joined together in the center. Two become one in a spiritual and/or sexual union. Neither side nor energy is greater than the other. They are equal.

The infinity symbol has also been used to symbolize twins. And the tattoo can symbolize a twin spirit or a twin flame.

There are a lot of ancient symbols being renewed in the tattoo world. The infinite symbol is just one of them.

Other symbols include those from ancient Egypt, Norse runes, and ancient goddess symbols.

The renewal of these old symbols is exciting. They are being brought out from the darkness and made new to represent people’s needs, desires, and spiritualities.

There is magic in symbols, new and old, and I will be covering more symbols in the weeks ahead.
