On December 10, 2025, the Mütter Museum in Philadelphia invites guests to step into the shadowy world of early horror cinema with Not So Silent Cinema Presents: The Phantom Carriage.
Directed by Victor Sjöström in 1921, The Phantom Carriage is one of the great silent films of the early 20th century. It is a haunting Swedish tale about death, redemption, and the thin line between the living and the dead. The story follows a man who, after dying at midnight on New Year’s Eve, is forced to drive Death’s carriage, collecting the souls of the newly deceased for the next year.

What makes this screening even more fitting is its setting. The Mütter Museum, a place known for its medical oddities, preserved specimens, and exploration of mortality. The museum provides the perfect atmosphere for revisiting this century-old meditation on death. The screening will feature a live score by Not So Silent Cinema, bringing the film’s eerie visuals to life in a way that bridges the past and present.
Tickets can be purchased online at The Mütter Museum.
