For several days in the summer of 1926, authorities searched the woods near Falling Creek for a 15-year-old girl dressed only in a bathing suit.
Her discarded clothing had reportedly been found, and witnesses claimed to have spotted her among the trees. Yet every attempt to catch her ended the same way: the girl slipped away and vanished back into the woods.
Her parents wanted her brought home, while police were left with troubling questions. Where was she sleeping? How was she finding food? And why was she so determined to remain hidden?
