Two men slipped into the Nicollet post office expecting to find a safe they could rob before anyone raised the alarm.
Instead, they awakened Postmaster Ed Holson.
Holson reached the telephone, summoned help, and within minutes the building was surrounded by 25 armed citizens. Before the alleged thieves could open the safe or make their escape, they found themselves caught in a trap of their own making.
Caught In Trap
NICOLLET, Minnesota. — Two men who give their names as Tom Hanlon and Andy Cimes are in the county jail following an alleged attempt to rob the post office at Nicollet.
Twenty-five armed citizens, it is said, prevented the looting of the safe.
The two men awoke Postmaster Ed Holson on entering the building. The postmaster summoned citizens by telephone and before the alleged thieves could rifle the safe, the building was surrounded by armed men.
The alleged robbers were captured and hurried to the Nicollet County Jail.
