I began covering many of the abuses taking place inside the old insane asylums because they were so prolific. This incident took place inside an Illinois state hospital for the insane back in 1913.
Beat Insane Man to Death?
Kankakee, Ill. – Two former attendants of the Kankakee state hospital for the insane are under arrest and a third man is wanted in connection with the death of Carl G. Holst, 78, of Paxton, Ill.
Six of the aged patient’s ribs were broken, and, according to the state’s attorney, William Wolfe, arrested on a charge of murder, confessed that he and two other attendants beat Holst because he refused to stay in bed.
