The Orange Bath Soak

While I absolutely love the smell of oranges, I have never taken an orange bath. While the article below was published in 1915, a quick online search shows that people are still squeezing oranges into their bathwater. I guess that is on my to do list for tonight.

Orange Bath Newest Beauty Tonic

San Francisco. — An “orange bath” for a milky complexion is the latest recipe for beauty. Miss Ida O’Day, stage star, is the “orange bath” exponent.

“We have always recognized the healthful benefits from oranges,” states Miss O’Day, “therefore isn’t it reasonable that the mild acid and oil of the juices and skin have medicinal properties that affect the complexion?

“I prepare my orange bath by squeezing the skin in such a manner that the oil acid permeates the bath water. You cannot imagine how soft the water becomes by this use of orange skins. Then a little of the orange juice can be added. This gives a pleasant aroma to the water as well as softening it.

“These orange baths are not a fad with me. I have persevered in their use for several years and believe that my clear velvet like complexion is due to them.”
