Sisters Falsely Sent To Insane Asylum

Here is a problem that was prominent in the past, although it is still highly prevalent today. Two sisters were sent into an insane asylum under false reasons. Fortunately, after ten years of hell, they were able to gain their freedom and sue the crap out of the physicians.

Brush Sisters File Suits For $500,000

Charge Physicians Signed False Certificates Committing Them to Insane Asylum

The suits of Misses Phoebe K. and Ada M. Brush, wealthy spinsters, against Drs. Walter Linsay and William B. Gibson, for signing alleged false certificates of lunacy, have been filed at White Plains. Each of the sisters asks $250,000 damages, charging they were kept in an asylum for ten years. The complaints were served on the defendants at Huntington last week.

The Brush sisters are now living with friends in Westchester County and their suits, for the biggest monetary damages ever asked in Westchester County, have attracted wide attention among lawyers and physicians. It is reported the defendants have engaged several prominent attorneys and will try to have the cases transferred to Long Island. The sisters were released from a Long Island asylum last March on writs of habeas corpus.
