Barnscheidt claimed he found the lost dutchman mine, but there was no followup to the story. It is one of dozens that claim to know the location of the old mine.
Says He Has Found Lost Dutchman Mine
Or One That is Equally as Rich in Mineral
An old prospector by the name of Barnscheidt, a well known character throughout the territory, arrived here yesterday driving a team of burrows to a part of a wagon. The entire outfit was in rather a dilapidated condition, and its best rate of speed would probably not be over a couple of miles per hour. Nevertheless the old man manages to get over the country. He tells a glowing tale of having discovered either the famous Lost Dutchman mine or one its equal, and has some rock that looks mighty good to experienced eyes. He ran out of provisions and came to the valley again to stock up.
The old man has been a resident of the territory for some forty years, coming here with the soldiers during the Apache war. He took an active part in them, and has since devoted his entire time to prospecting. He has covered every foot of the territory and feels now that his efforts are about to be rewarded.
