Ghoul Proof Coffin Ad

Burglar-proof and ghoul-proof coffins were highly popular in the early 1900s due to so many bodies being stolen after their burial.

The following ad first appeared in newspapers in 1909.

The dead were mostly being stolen from their coffins and being sold to medical colleges for the purpose of study and dissection. There were also those who dug up the wealthy in order to steal their jewelry and to rip out any gold teeth. Finally, there were those who wanted to be intimate with the corpses. Sadly, necrophilia was rather common in the early 20th century.
