In 1920, George Underwood thought he was only waiting for a train at the Wabash Station in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
He had been to Kansas City and was on his way back to Carrollton when two armed men approached him and forced him into a motor car.
What followed was a brutal robbery that nearly cost him his life. Taken to a lonely spot near the railroad tracks, Underwood was robbed, bound to the rails with barbed wire, and left there until a passenger train came through in the dark, leaving him horribly mutilated.
