A strong gust of wind nearly turned an ordinary walk along Pike Street into a fatal accident for A. A. Cather of Clarksburg, West Virginia.
As he passed the United Woolen Mills store around noon, a massive sign was torn loose and came crashing down toward him. It missed striking him squarely on the head by only inches, clipping his ear and leaving a painful gash.
Had Cather been standing slightly closer, the newspaper believed the accident would almost certainly have killed him.
Narrow Escape
CLARKSBURG, West Virginia. — A,A, Cather, of the Lowndes Shoe Store, had a narrow escape from death about noon Tuesday, when the wind blew down a massive sign at the United Woolen Mills store on Pike Street.
Had it struck him squarely on the head, a fatal wound would doubtless have been received.
Luckily, the sign merely touched one of his ears, but a rather painful gash was made.
