In February 1925, a strange report out of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, told of a missing man, a repeated dream, and the discovery of a body exactly where the dream had shown it.
John Kennedy, seventy years old and a resident of Rural Valley, had vanished on December 1 after serving on a jury in Kittanning. He had accepted a ride part of the way home, then got out near the place where he intended to continue on foot. After that, he was not seen alive again.
For weeks, his disappearance remained a mystery. Then Samuel Lowery, a neighbor of Kennedy’s, began having the same troubling dream night after night. In it, he saw the missing man lying in a stream.
Whether moved by fear, instinct, or the haunting persistence of the dream, Lowery finally went out to search.
Four miles from Kennedy’s home, he found the body of the missing man lying in a small stream, just as the dream had shown.
No marks of violence were found on Kennedy’s body.
