For eight years, Reuben Nash lived with the lingering pain of an old bicycle accident. The Michigan farmer suffered from neuritis, a condition that caused persistent nerve pain and offered him little relief.
Then, while working in a field in 1906, Nash leaned against a tree with an ax in his hand, and lightning struck.

ALAMO, Michigan. — Reuben Nash, aged 50 years, a farmer living about three miles from Alamo, has been cured of neuritis by a lightning bolt.
Eight years ago the man was struck by a bicycle and a short time after the accident suffered from neuritis, and has continued to suffer from it until he was struck by lightning while working in his field.
The man was leaning against a tree with an ax in his hand when the lightning struck him. He remained unconscious for three days from the shock. He suffered no permanent injury, and upon recovering, discovered that he was no longer troubled with the old complaint.
